How to Design Your Own Tattoo

Are you thinking about getting inked but you want to get your own design to your body? Then you should continue reading this article to help you create your own design.

Creating your own tattoo design is special since it feels personal and unique. And many people will ask you what is the meaning behind it. But creating your own can be difficult especially if you don’t know how to draw.

But it doesn’t mean you have to do it all by yourself. That’s why here at Electric Underground Tattoos, we’re going to give you advice so that you can create your own tattoo design that you can be proud of.

Consider the location

When creating your tattoo design. you need to consider the place where you’re going to put it since it can affect the design itself. You need to realize that drawing it on a body is much different from drawing on paper or a computer screen.

You also need to decide whether you’ll put the tattoo on the area that can be seen by many people or just a few.

Here are some of the areas you can choose from:

Semi-private areas

  • Lower back
  • Shoulder
  • Stomach
  • Neck

high visibility areas

  • Face
  • Arms
  • Fingers
  • Legs.

Get inspired

No matter how creative you are you’re going to have a bad day and have some bad ideas. That’s why you should be open to experimenting and creating a different design based on different inspirations like flowers, arts, or even music.

You can even browse the internet to get inspiration or ideas from other artists that are showing their personal designs. But you need to make sure that you avoid copying any of the designs. Many artists also draw inspiration from photos of different things.

Stick to classic over trendy

You always need to remember that tattoos are permanent and it is hard to get rid of them. That’s why you should always not get or design a trendy tattoo since some of the trends might come and go.

No matter what the meaning of your tattoo, you should always be true to yourself and have your and your whole personality be represented in your design. You should also remember that it should be appropriate for everyone and should respect other cultures or people.

Draw it yourself

If you want to have a unique and one of a kind tattoo, then you should sketch your own. You don’t have to worry about having an artistic background you can just draw and enhance it along the way.

You just have to let your imagination flow and create your own tattoo design that will definitely make the other people go wow.

Choose the best color

Many people think that tattoos should only be black or white, but they’re wrong since you can also incorporate many colors into them. But you should remember that don’t get crazy when it comes to picking the colors since it might ruin the balance of your artwork. You always need to consider the maintenance of the tattoo when you’re picking the color.

Consider solid black tattoos

Even though people have colorful tattoos these days, the basic black tattoo is still one of the most used colors of ink in a tattoo. It gives off a clean and slick vibe every time you go outside and people see it.

Try a temporary tattoo stencil

Many people use this method to see if their design is actually good enough before being etched forever. That’s why we also recommend this method when a first-timer is choosing their design to make sure that they will love their own choice.

It can also help you adjust your design when it comes to the placement of the tattoo in your body.

Find the right artist

After looking and creating your perfect design, you need to look for a great artist that can help you bring your artwork to life. You need to look at their art style and their past achievements.

You also need to look at their information around the internet and learn everything about them. Also, look at their past works and review from the clients that they have to handle to get the right gist.

You should always remember that they might also modify your design a little bit to match your body and make it much cooler. That’s why you should always keep an open mind and accept every suggestion that may have.

Creating your own tattoo can be difficult and might give you a hard time but you don’t have to worry about that since here at Electric Underground Tattoos, we can help you with that. You just need to contact our salon to reserve a spot today.

Interesting facts about tattoos

Before you go, we here at Electric Underground Tattoos, want you to know some of the interesting facts about the art of tattooing.

1. Black is the easiest color to remove from a tattoo

Many people believe that tattoos can stay permanently in your skin. But with the help of science, many methods like laser treatments can remove them. And the color black is one of the easiest ink to get rid of since it absorbs a greater number of laser waves than lighter colors.

2. To mix tattoo color in certain cultures, urine was occasionally used

It is known to everyone that many cultures have their own method of creating a tattoo. They usually use coal dust to make the black dye, but they also add urine to the mix to create different colors for the procedure.

3. Your skin is pierced 50 to 3000 times per minute by a tattoo machine

Many people don’t realize that their skin is being pierced by a needle for more than 50 to 3000 depending on the type of tattoo. This method is used to incorporate the ink to the skin of the client.

4. Tattoo ink is inserted into the second layer of skin

The dermis is the second layer of the skin, it is also the layer in which the tattoo is being permanently tattooed.

5. Religions like Christianity, Judaism, and Islam have traditionally been opposed to tattooing

Many religions condemn the use of the tattoo and have a strong opposite stance about them since they see it as an act of blasphemy and staining the house of the god. But some of them like Buddhism and Hinduism are open to them since they use this kind of method to prove their loyalty.

6. The philosopher Confucius was against the practice of tattooing because he propagated that the human body is a gift

Many people in Ancient China, especially people from the 3rd century BC believe accepted tattooing as a form of art. But some of them don’t accept it like the philosopher Confucius, they believe that this should only be done to the people who committed sin and mark their punishments.

7. Tattoos were introduced to the west by sailors like Captain Cook

After Captain Cook sailed to Polynesia in 1769, he saw some of the natives have tattoos on their bodies that have different meanings. They became curious and decided to also have them on their bodies.

After their return, they coined the term ‘tattoo’ and helped the introduction of it to the masses. This is also the reason why many sailors have them.

8. The oldest discovered proof of tattooing dates back to 3250 BC

‘Otzi’, a preserved body found in the glacier in the Alps, had 60 different tattoos all over his body. They believe that they use carbon ink as the main ingredient for tattoos.

9. The first tattoo machine got its inspiration from Thomas Edison’s electric pen

Samuel O’Reilly invented the first electric tattoo machine in 1891. He used Thomas Edison’s idea of the electric pen to create his own invention. But before it was invented the procedure was done manually.

10. The oldest recorded tattoo ink recipe contained insect eggs

There are some of the weirdest and strangest recipes for ink dye but in Ancient Rome they used a different kind of ink. They added insect eggs to the recipe but there’s no scientific explanation behind it.

They also used pine bark, corroded bronze, vinegar, vitriol, and leek juice as the main ingredient.
